Cargo is being offloaded from a 707TCA at FOL Orland. Normally flown in a combi configuration the aircraft can carry up to eleven pallets when all of the passenger seats are removed.
E-3A LX-N90459 banks away from the KC-135 tanker having received fuel. AWACS missions may last for up to 18 hours if the aircraft carries a second crew.
To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the NAEW&CF, E-3A LX-N90443 was painted in a special colour scheme. It will be updated to NMT standard this year at Manching, where it will also revert back to standard camouflage.
AWACS crews from a number of countries are trained and seconded to the NAEW&CF. The three mission crew members seen in this photograph are from the USAF, Luftwaffe and Royal Netherlands Air Force.
