The latest canard design to come from the fertile mind of Californian Burt Rutan, creator of the Vari-Eze, is the Quickie, powered by a 16 h.p. development of the Onan two-cylinder, four-stroke industrial engine. The main wheels are housed in winglet-shaped pods at the extremities of the foreplane. Aimed at achieving good fuel economy, 100 miles per US gal is anticipated. Constructed of glass-fibre sandwich with a rigid foam core, the Quickie took three months and 400 man hours to build. The ailerons are mounted inboard on the wing, and the elevators take up virtually the whole span of the canard surface.

First of several UK registered Quickies to take to the air is G-BHUK built in a year by a London group.
