G.Taurino - Linking with NATO /Military/
Three Swiss Air Force F/A-18 Hornets being led by a Belgian F-16. The former were the most unusual participants in the Link 16 Fighter Meet at Florennes. Despite these aircraft not being equipped with Link 16, the organisers ensured they could take part in sorties. The exercise will have also proved useful to the Swiss in providing a better understanding of the system for possible future integration.
The organising unit, 350 Smaldeel, painted the tail of this F-16 with the image of an E-3 and other participating aircraft types, though some such as the Rafale cancelled their attendance at late notice.
Air forces took the opportunity to simulate using their weapons in co-ordination with Link 16. This Royal Netherlands Air Force F-16B is carrying a blue coloured practice JDAM, an AMRAAM on the wingtip and a LANTIRN targeting pod under the fuselage.
