The two YT-34Cs - converted T-34B airframes - have been subjected to an extensive flight test programme to establish satisfactory spinning characteristics. Up to two minutes of inverted flight is possible.

The Fuji KM-2 was one of several Japanese developments of the Beech Mentor, having a 340 hp Lycoming engine and being operated as a two-seater although retaining the basic four-seat cabin designed for the LM-1.

The Fuji LM-1 Nikko, flown in June 1955, was the first Japanese derivative of the Mentor, having the same engine but a new centre fuselage seating four in two pairs of side-by-side seats.

From the LM-1, Fuji developed the KM-1, the first variant to have the uprated Lycoming engine. A few examples were built for civil use, leading to adoption of the similar KM-2 by the JASDF.

As its new primary trainer, the JASDF has recently adopted the KM-2B, final Fuji derivative of the original Beech design.
