R.Braybrook - Charting a course for V/STOL
An artist's impression, prepared by Rolls-Royce Ltd, of a possible future supersonic V/STOL aircraft powered by a single augmented vectored-thrust engine. This engine would be derived from the Pegasus and would have a plenum chamber burning (PCB) thrust - augmentation system in the front nozzles and a single thrust vectoring rear tailpipe and nozzles.
Another possible supersonic V/STOL layout, with a single intake, PCB and two thrust-vectoring nozzles.
British Aerospace has been investigating a number of possible supersonic V/STOL configurations in the content of a Harrier successor for the RAF. This Kingston project is of similar layout to the aircraft shown in the artist's impression on the previous drawing.
