Short S.B.6 Seamew
В 1951 году британское Адмиралтейство подготовило тактико-технические требования на новый всепогодный противолодочный самолет, который должен был действовать с небольших авианосцев. Под эти требования был спроектирован S.B.6 Seamew, совершивший первый полет в августе 1953 года и оснащенный турбовинтовым двигателем Armstrong Siddeley Mamba мощностью 1590 л. с. Самолет имел экипаж из двух человек, которым был обеспечен хороший обзор из расположенной впереди кабины. Впрочем, самолет показал себя весьма непростым в управлении - данную проблему до конца решить так и не удалось.
Британские военные заказали 41 серийный самолет, включая вариант S.C.2 Seamew Mk 2 для ВВС, но только 19 из них было собрано. Из этого количества семь машин были приняты в эксплуатацию ВМС до того, как в 1957 году программа по экономическим причинам была закрыта. Размах крыла самолета составлял 16,76 м, максимальная взлетная масса - 6804 кг, максимальная скорость - 378 км/ч.

Looking deceptively innocent is a pair of Short Seamews. This was the aircraft on which one Boscombe Down test pilot reported 'entry to the cockpit is difficult; it should be made impossible!'.
A pair of the ill-fated Short Seamews designed for both the RAF and FAA. The latter was intended to operate from escort carriers but the Royal Navy had inconsiderately got rid of them before the Seamew flew. Possibly it had something to do with left and right hands. -
