Hiller ROE-1 Rotorcycle
В 1954 году компания "Hiller" заключила контракте Армией США на разработку и постройку небольшого вертолета для одного человека. Прототип Hiller XROE-1 выполнил первый полет 10 января 1957 года. Конструктивно он представлял собой вертикальный пилон с шасси в виде трех опор, образующих пирамиду. К нижней части пилона крепилось кресло пилота, к верхней - хвостовая балка. Над пилоном установили двухлопастный несущий винт. Силовая установка состояла из 4-цилиндрового мотора Nelson мощностью 43 л.с. Максимальная скорость вертолета составляла 106 км/ч, практический потолок - 3660 м, дальность полета - 267 км. "Hiller" построила небольшую партию предсерийных YROE-1 Rotorcycle, еще некоторое количество таких машин собрала по лицензии британская "Saunders-Roe Ltd", однако в массовое производство изделие не передавалось.

Dick Beck, Hiller Aircraft Corporation test pilot, flying the Hiller XROE-1 Rotorcycle in front of the Elstree clubhouse in May 1958. Powered by a 42 h.p. Nelson engine, the Rotorcycle could be folded and stowed away in a space less than 12ft by 30in.

A Marine pilot flying BuA.4004 to which a fixed tailplane has been attached on the top of the tail rotor boom. The fuel tank has been moved from just above the engine and is now a spherical tank on top of the tail boom.
