Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) rolled out the prototype Hurkus primary and basic trainer on June 27, 2012 at its Kazan premises. Wearing the registration TC-VCH, the turboprop was unveiled in a ceremony attended by invited dignitaries, including the Turkish Prime Minister, Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The Hurkus was designed to meet a Turk Hava Kuwetleri (THK, Turkish Air Force) requirement. Two flying and two static airframes were ordered on March 15, 2006, as part of a development contract, but a production order has yet to be placed.
