Lockheed P-38 Lightning N9005R/44-53095 Putt Putt Maru. Piloted by Ronnie Gardner, and owned and operated by the Lone Star Flight Museum at Galveston, Texas, the ex-Honduran Air Force P-38 had less than 10hr on the dock since a complete restoration when this photograph was taken.
This photograph was taken by Flight at Brooklands on Whit Monday 1911, shortly after Hubert Latham won the spot landing competition in his Antoinette! In fact he claimed that his wing-warping failed as he tried to turn above the Martin-Handasyde hangar. Although the pilot was uninjured, the hangar was damaged.
