The other memory was of a photo acquired during a period of service at Shoeburyness Ranges about 12 years ago, which I kept because it struck me as portraying a sad end to an obviously historic aeroplane. After a lot of searching I found it, and enclose it in case it is new to you. It looks as if the F.D.1 was set up for attack by a continuous-rod warhead exploded above and behind the cockpit.
