B.Hales-Dutton - Zooming across the Atlantic for less /Commercial/
Zoom Airlines Ltd has a fleet of two Boeing 767-300ERs, which it is mostly using for scheduled long-haul low-cost services. It is also flying charter flights for tour operators. This 767, G-UKZM, is pictured taking off from Phuket in Thailand.
Managing Director of Zoom Airlines Ltd, Jonathan Hinkles, told AIR International: “We're flying to places they [major transatlantic carriers] know people want to goto in big numbers but it's been convenient for them to channel passengers through their hubs instead."
Zoom Airlines Ltd is an offshoot of Canadian-based Zoom Airlines Inc. The latter carrier was launched in 2002 and today has three 767-300ERs (one of which is pictured) and two 757-200S. The British carrier has its own AOC, though the two airlines share the same colour scheme, reservations system and business model.
Boeing 767-300ER, G-UKZM, was Zoom Airlines Ltd’s first aircraft and has been named 'City of London'. The aircraft was used to fly the carrier's inaugural service to Bermuda on June 11 last year.
This is one of two Boeing 757s operated by Zoom Airlines Inc of Canada. In the summer they are fitted with 201 seats for transatlantic services and in winter they are configured with 228 for flights to the Caribbean and Mexico.
