A.Brookes - Georgia Air War Analysed /Military/
One or two of the nine Georgian Air Force combat capable Sukhoi Su-25 Frogfoots were lost during the conflict.
A Russian Air Force Mi-17 Hip secures the area near the town of Gal 50 miles from the regional centre Sukhumi in Abkhazia, a separatist region on Georgia's Black Sea coast, on August 11, 2008. Russian peacekeepers have been based in Abkhazia and within a security zone running along the boundary since the early 1990s, when Abkhazia fought to throw off Georgian rule.
There is no evidence that the Russian Air Force fielded any electronic warfare capabilities beyond basic defensive flares and chaff. This Su-24M Fencer is seen deploying flares during a recent training exercise.
