Aeroplane Monthly 1978-08

The AEROPLANE photo of a Mitchell trio on the inside back cover was taken in April 1943, when the aircraft were with 180 Squadron, RAF, based at West Raynham. The nearest aircraft, FL218 Nulli Secundus, suffered flak damage during a raid on Zudauguis on January 25, 1944, and after limping back to England was abandoned by its crew, crashing near Hawkinge, Kent.
Typical “B class” markings of the 1929-40 period are displayed by the Armstrong Whitworth A.W.19, A3, later K5606.
