Vought F6U-1 production Pirate 41-22499 in formation with FH-1 Phantom and F2H Banshee test aircraft.
Vought XF6U-1 Pirate 33634 in original configuration.
The first XF6U-1, 33632, in 1948 after fitment of the Westinghouse J34-WE-30 engine and afterburner.
A production Pirate fitted with auxiliary fins on the tailplane to correct the aircraft’s inherent directional instability.
This view of a production Pirate shows well the stainless steel tail section of increased length to accommodate the Westinghouse J34-WE-30 engine and afterburner. The Pirate's nose wheel could kneel for better storage on carriers.
The first XF6U-1, 33632, over the Muroc area with Ed Owens piloting.
Last surviving Pirate is 122479 seen here lying in the New Mexico Desert awaiting attention by the Bradley Air Museum.
