Spitfire VII prototype AB450 in July 1942, two months after it was first flown. In addition to the extended wingtips, the Mk VII had a pressure cabin. Later Mk VIIs had enlarged rudders and fins.

Spitfire VI X4942 in September 1941. It was originally built as a Mk 1 but was converted to become the second prototype Mk VI in July 1941. It was powered by a Merlin 47.
