  • A young Henry Folland poses with colleagues beside his first design, the record-breaking Royal Aircraft Factory S.E.4 of 1914. Two R.E.5 two-seaters are being erected in the same shop. The R.E.5 made extensive use of steel tubing in its fuselage and tail unit.
This classic period photograph is dated May 30, 1914, and shows what are probably R.E.5s under production plus the S.E.4 (at right) being finalised in F1 shop at the Royal Aircraft Factory, Farnborough.
