Since this issue contains an article on Brize Norton, a photograph of that airfield seemed appropriate. This was taken in May 1946 and close scrutiny will reveal 26 Dakotas and 166 Horsas strewn around. Comparison with the plan on page 95 will reveal the major changes that have taken place during the development of the airfield to cater for long-range transports.

Above is a photograph of Pembroke WV712 supplied by Mr. J.F.Mullins. On 20 April 1955, it had the misfortune to run out of fuel and ditched in Aden Harbour, only minutes from touchdown at Khormaksar. The Bishop of the Sudan was aboard but presumably prayer power was not enough for the last couple of miles. From the look of it , this particular Pembroke never flew again so the date of sale 20.3.69 is spurious.
