Miles Hawk PK-SAL was delivered with a Cirrus engine to Sourabaya in 12.33. B.A.Clarke assures us that the 'Colonial Hawk' was outwardly identical, apart from extra cooling louvres, with the standard Hawk - but it was strengthened internally and designed for minimum maintenance. Surrey Flying Services did some high-pressure work in installing the machine at the show after it had been held up at Croydon awaiting an export licence. Incidentally, a rather novel brochure, "A Day in the Life of a Beechcraft," containing copies of an American commercial log, is issued by Surrey's at Croydon.

It was photographed by Bernard Martin at Redhill 23.7.67 in Tiger Club service and two years later was sold in Canada as CF-PEI.

Both had identical early careers, being transferred from BEAC to BSAAC and then joining BWIA as VP-TAT and VP-TAU respectively. On their return from the West Indies both were purchased by Independent Air Travel Ltd of Blackbushe. G-AHOS (shown) quickly passed to Eagle and then Orion, with whom it was photographed as "Sirius" on 3.9.57 at Blackbushe. It later went to Air Safaris and was broken up at Hurn in 1962.

G-AHOU was used for a time by Swiss Universal of Basle, though the photo shows that it retained the IAT colours on the nose, also at Blackbushe on 3.9.57. Later with Overseas Avn and again Swiss Universal, it was scrapped by Tradair in 1963 at Southend.

Регистрационный номер: D-1212 New problems start with the photograph below submitted by Gerard Terry. It may show Gerhard Fieseler himself in Raab-Katzenstein RKIIc D-1212 c/n 65, and is said to have been taken at Stanley Park, Blackpool in 1928-9. Can anyone confirm or add to these details please?
We already have received a fairly rapid confirmation that the photograph in the last issue of the Raab-Katzenstein 'Schwalbe' D-1212 could have been taken in 1928 at Blackpool. Philip D.Trevor writes that the Blackpool Aviation Meeting was held at Squires Gate aerodrome on the South Shore on July 6th and 7th 1928. On both days Herr Fieseler gave aerobatic displays in the aircraft which was specially fitted with a 120hp Siemens engine. The displays included an outside loop which Fieseler claimed to be the first pilot to perform, though in the USA others challenge the claim. A full account and pictures may be found in the 'Aeroplane' of 11.7.28.
An earlier German photo, of Raab-Katzenstein D-1212 on page 84/30 is now correctly identified as a Kl Ic Schwalbe (not RK IIe). Gerhardt Fieseler obtained D-1212 in 2.28 and an item in "Airways" magazine of 7.28 stated that he intended to fly it at Blackpool on 6/7.7.28. As this aircraft's history shows, it must have been taken between 1931 and 1933 when the Moth was sold to Poland but we do not know the location. The back of the print is inscribed "Blue-bird two-seater biplane" (sic! - we hope the lad became a more proficient spotter later) and "Adshead". On the original the registration is clearly visible under the port wing. Failing all else, can anyone identify the school uniforms ... ?

There is some suggestion that it was taken in England following a flight from Australia, perhaps because the Australian marks were not allocated until four months after it flew to Darwin. Note the faired front cockpit, spare prop attached to the fuselage and the name "My Little Ship".
