The finished “big picture”: the individual frames have been blended together, and scratches and blemishes removed, to create the first complete close-up colour view of JF294 to be seen for 55 years.

Since the original film showed no close-up of the complete aircraft, individual scanned frames had to be “stitched” together.

One of the film frames before correction of excessive purplish cast, using known standard RAF markings colours as a reference. JF294 was painted in Medium Sea Grey (upper surfaces) and PRU Blue below.

Spitfire JF294 is preserved today, in the South African National Museum of Military History at Saxonwold, Johannesburg.
