An anonymous photograph has turned up of the catapult on the quarterdeck of the battleship Resolution with Fairey IIID S1108 perched atop it.

It is a D.H.6 fitted with the Alula high-lift wing as designed by A A Holle. The conversion was carried out by Blackburn Aeroplane & Motor Co. The tail is carried on a trolley for ease of movement. Test pilots wisely did not queue up to take on the test flying of this device and its test flight was brief and barely controllable, with the civil registration G-EAWG. The programme did not continue in this form but other similarly-shaped wings continued to appear from time to time.
