C W director S I Waddington with the curved top version shows the special suitcases designed to fit in the baggage compartment. These were not popular as it was much more convenient for people to use their own suitcases.

With Race No.3 for the King's Cup on the rudder, the name General Aircraft Ltd appears underneath it. Flown by C F Hughesdon, the Cygnet could well have won the last pre-war King's Cup had it not run out of oil.

During the General Aircraft takeover the hood was redesigned with a curved top giving increased headroom, additional roof lighting from two extra windows, and sliding windows on both sides.

This landing approach photo shows a modification not previously recorded of the original hood with sliding panel side windows added to the pilot's side. The centre flap and tailwheel fairing have been deleted.

Pushed out on the grass, the Cygnet's slim rear fuselage exaggerates the size of the triangular fin and rudder. The tailwheel has a cover fairing.

The pilot is looking at the photographer, for whose benefit he is making a steep pull-up from a fast fly-by. Note the moulded windscreen on the new hood, the pitot on the starboard wing, and the registration G-AEMA.

In November 1938 G-AEMA was given a new twin-fin tail unit which overcame the limitations of the single fin and rudder.

With the curved hood, orthodox wing root fillets replaced the unusual step fairing originally fitted on the prototype G-AEMA. The stub exhausts have been replaced by a long exhaust pipe extending below the cabin.

In this flypast at a flying display, the sharper taper behind the new cockpit cover can be seen as can the original stepped fairing behind the wing root.

C W Aircraft had worked on the design of the Swan twin engine 6-seater but it got no further than the mockup of the Gipsy Six version shown here and its cost speeded the dissolution of CWA.
