S-36 представлял собой восьмиместный полутораплан - амфибию, оснащенную звездообразными двигателями Wright Whirlwind мощностью по 200л. с.
Mrs Frances Grayson's S-36 had longer engine nacelles with pointed ends. She called it "The Dawn" and had the name painted on the nose. On an attempted Atlantic crossing with Mrs Grayson and two pilots on 23.12.37 it disappeared without trace.Самолёты на фотографии: Sikorsky S-36 - США - 1927

Регистрационный номер: A-8005 The U S Navy ordered an S-36 with the service designation XPS-1 and the serial A-8005. It was ordered with an open cockpit as seen here, a feature of most military aircraft at the time, but this was soon changed to an enclosed hood.

This unidentified S-36 has the same propeller spinners and long pointed nacelles as "The Dawn". Its shadow shows the single tail boom of the S-36 which carried the twin rudder tail unit.

The Guardian, a bomber version of the S-37, was built by Sikorsky. The armament was fitted by Consolidated who added the number 'XP-496' on the rudder and were to have built production aircraft, but none were ordered. It was converted for civil use as the S-37-B.
The aircraft is a twin-engined light bomber roughly equal to the Boulton Paul Sidestrand. It was with the USAAC at Wright Field in 1927 for testing but never received a USAAC designation. The fin, oddly, does not seem to have a rudder. It has the title 'Consolidated Sikorsky Guardian' in the white stripes above the tailplane and 'XP-496' below it.Самолёты на фотографии: Sikorsky S-37 - США - 1927

The S-37 was a 100ft span sesquiplane with two 500 hp P&W 9-cyl Hornet radial engines intended for a second attempt at the Atlantic crossing, dropped after Lindbergh's success. The triple-rudder tail unit shows clearly, also the 1fi bay wing compared with the 2fi bays on the S-35.

Регистрационный номер: NC5933 [2] This close-up of prototype S-38A NC5933 shows the two 415 hp P&W Wasp 9-cyl radial engines with short nacelles and 'whistle-pipe' exhausts. On retraction, the upright undercarriage leg telescoped and the lower part folded upwards to a horizontal position under the wing root.

Регистрационный номер: NC8019 [3] S-38A NC8019 c/n 14-3 had exhaust collector pipes and twin exhausts over the wing, a complicated system which was not adopted for later aircraft. This view shows well the twin boom tail with fixed fins and balanced rudders above and below the tailplane.

Регистрационный номер: NC9105 S-38B NC9105 c/n 114-4 has the rear exhaust-collector ring with pipe along the nacelle that was adopted as standard. It also has Townend rings on the engines, a feature that was optional.

Регистрационный номер: NC8021 The first S-38A purchased by Western Air Express was NC8021 c/n 14-5. Two 100 US gal (83 Imp gal) fuel tanks were fitted in the wing centre section with a cross feed to supply either engine. Cruising at 110 mph this gave a 500 mile range.

Регистрационный номер: NC8019 [3] NC8019, ready to go with a load of passengers, shows the complicated overwing exhaust system. The upright windscreen was a feature of the first twenty or so S-38 airframes which did not clear readily in rain or spray.

The prototype S-38A, NC5933. Its 71 ft 8 in. span sesquiplane wing structure was similar to the S-36 but the hull was 6 ft longer at 40 ft and the two rudders of the twin-boom mounted tail unit were now hinged on fixed fins.Самолёты на фотографии: Sikorsky S-38 - США - 1928
