Two examples of the XPS-2 were S-38A variants which followed the XPS-1 into US Navy service, these in turn being followed by the PS-2, RS-3 and RS-4, all used as unarmed transports. Photo may show either c/n 14-8 or 14-9.

They could be operated separately, and a turn on the water could be steered by lowering the wheel on the inside of the turn.

Регистрационный номер: SE-EKN, NC11V S-38B NC11V c/n 314-15 was purchased in 1930 by Margery Durant of Old Westbury, New York and named "Silver Wings". In 1934 it became SE-EKN as seen here - the registration only being visible on top of the wings. Export to the Spanish Republicans in June 1936 was banned but it found its way there in December via Holland and France. Damaged in an air raid on arrival at Bilbao it was flown to Santander for repairs. On its first test flight after months of delay on 30.7.37 it was shot down by 'friendly fire' from a group of Republican Polikarpov I-15s whose pilots were unable to identify it.

Sikorsky test pilot Boris Sergievsky in one of the two Hornet B powered S-38BHs, either NC25V (414-16) or NC40V (514-4). The engines have stub exhausts for high performance so Boris has a helmet with ear pads!

C-6 29-406 was the first S-38A to be purchased by the US Army and it was tested as No.XP-588. It has the additional cabin windows of the 12-seater and was followed by ten examples of the C-6A.

Регистрационный номер: G-ABYS [2], NC15V [2] SEA, LAND OR AIR: The Sikorsky (2 Wasps) of Mr. Francis Francis. The cabin is beautifully fitted, and this machine makes what is probably the most luxurious privately-owned aircraft in the country. It is in a similar Sikorsky that the Hutchinson family are flying to England, via Greenland, from New York.
