Comet 4C SA-R-7 of King Saud of Saudi Arabia which hit a mountain in the southern Alps due to a faulty descent in bad weather 20.3.63.
20.3.63 King Saud of Saudi Arabia's personal Comet 4C SA-R-7 c/n 06461 crashed c.0223 GMT on Monte Matto, Italy, near French border en route Geneva - Nice. Capt John Hanslip seconded from DH, 8 crew and 9 passengers were all killed. The Comet had been cleared to descend to 10,000 ft but struck high ground in the Argentera Massif, although the King initially claimed that sabotage was responsible.

DC-6A G-APON of Cunard Eagle Airways at Heathrow survived its crash landing in Ceylon on 16.1.63 and after repair returned to the US register as N6814C in 1964.
16.1.63 Cunard Eagle Airways DC-6A G-APON c/n 45058 on freight charter from London to Adelaide via Aden suffered nosewheel shimmy and collapse on landing at Katunayake Airport, Ceylon. Front fuselage, inboard engines and propellers substantially damaged but although first reported as a write-off it was repaired and sold 6.64 to Zantop as N6814C. Capt Taft and six other crew not seriously injured.

Twin Pioneer G-APLN which ditched in the Atlantic 16.1.63, seen at Prestwick in 1958 during testing. The wide wing strut is now fitted but the leg fairings are still awaited.
16.1.63 Bristow Helicopters' Twin Pioneer 1 G-APLN c/n 526, en route Marrakech - Las Palmas, having been unable to establish position from closed Fuerteventura ATC, attempted to return to mainland but ran out of fuel and ditched in Atlantic at 0120 GMT alongside Spanish trawler "Explo-Ramar". Capt Ronald G Williams, 1 crew and 1 passenger were all picked up by the trawler, aircraft sank.

ATL.98 Carvair G-ARSF of BUA/Channel Air Bridge, seen on the approach at Southend with everything down, crashed on landing at Rotterdam 28.12.62.
28.12.62 British United Airways ATL.98 Carvair G-ARSF c/n 18339/3 "Pont de I'Europe" operating as Channel Air Bridge, on landing c.1200 at Rotterdam Airport from Southend in falling snow, struck 6 ft dyke 800 ft short of runway, bounced heavily, rolled to right, lost starboard wing and came to rest inverted. Capt John Toothill died on his way to hospital, 3 other crew and 14 passengers survived with minor injuries. Approach was below glidepath and rate of descent too high.

The fuselage of Smith's Varsity G-APAZ on top of the house in Gloucester where it crashed during single engine practice from Staverton on 27.3.63. The nose and cockpit broke off downwards on impact, killing both pilots.
27.3.63 Varsity G-APAZ c/n 561 operated by S Smith and Sons on Ministry of Aviation contract as instrument testbed crashed onto house in Tuffley Avenue, Gloucester killing both of the crew during planned single-engine overshoot from Staverton. Chief Test Pilot Russell A Palmer was checking co-pilot Kelston G Thomas with port engine feathered when on climb-out the starboard engine suddenly stopped and the Varsity crashed from about 700 ft. On investigation it was found that both fuel cut-off switches were in the off position.
