22.12.63 "Wartime German Messerschmitt fighter", which force-landed in Labrador and second which landed safely at Goose Bay, were indeed Nord 1002s, F-BFYX (c/n 188) and F-BGVU (c/n 264) which had appeared as Me 109s in the film "633 Squadron". They were on delivery to Martin Caidin and to Aero Associates, Tucson, AZ respectively, and staged through Prestwick arriving 1.12.63 and departing 12.12.63. On the leg from Narsarsuaq to Goose Bay they became lost and requested an escort which was provided in the form of a C-54 from the USAF Air Rescue Sqn at Goose Bay. On the way F-BGVU lost oil pressure and had to force-land on harbour ice at Monday Island 135 mis NE of Goose Bay. The aircraft was abandoned and the crew of Francis Freeman and Robin Carruthers of Ipswich were picked up by an RCAF Otter on skis. The other Nord was crewed by Jeff Hawke and Jean Cullum and subsequently became N108U.
