The photograph above came from Maurice Gates' collection and we wonder if anyone can identify the where, when and why.
An undercarriage leg seems to have stuck in the retracted position while the other leg does not seem to be fully extended.
The photograph has not revealed what was happening. Indeed, it seems that nothing odd WAS happening. Peter Dance has traced the date of the photograph to 10th July 1948 at Gatwick. The Dakota seems to be KJ970 but no reported accident seems to have been involved. John Withers suggests that as Dakota undercarriages were well known for not coming up simultaneously, this could be a perfectly normal take-off, or a reasonable facsimile thereof.
