  • Регистрационный номер: B6402

Little is know about Camel B6402 other than it was with No.73 Squadron at Lilbourne in October 1917. It was obviously written off before the squadron moved to France.

  • Регистрационный номер: G-BHHM, S-134

The first Lynx for the Royal Danish Navy was handed over in the unlikely surroundings of the pool of London. S-134 landed on the flight deck of the fishery protection vessel Hvidbjoernen on 15 May 1987 still carrying its civil registration G-BHHM, the first of a batch of eight Lynx Mk. 90s.

Short 184 N9085 was one of the last batch built by Robey & Co at Lincoln. After being delivered to the seaplane carrier Engadine at the beginning of 1919, it was transferred to No. 266 Squadron at Petrovsk after arrival in North Russia. N9085 was shipped back to Britain in July 1919.

  • In Britain, the Coast Guard were equipped with bicycles but the United States Coast Guard had heavier equipment. The Martin PBM-5G Mariner was built for the USCG, being basically a PBM-5 with less warlike equipment. 45420 was one of a batch of 630 PBM-5 flying boats and the Coast Guard used the type until 1958.

  • Регистрационный номер: WF632

Looking remarkably spooky, the Short SB-3 was a version of the Sturgeon designed to meet Specification M.6/49 for a carrier-borne anti-submarine aircraft. Two AS Mamba engines were fitted but the Gannet was also produced to this specification and was much more suitable on carrier decks. WF632 was first flown on 12th August 1950. Two radar operators were fitted into the nose compartment with a radar scanner below. A second prototype, WF636, never flew.

  • Регистрационный номер: T9457

A certain lack of security is evident as spectators look at a new Hudson III, T9457, at the Union Air Terminal, Burbank, California on 15th December 1940. In common with all early Hudsons, no turret is fitted, as these were installed by Boulton Paul after arrival in Britain.

  • Регистрационный номер: RA356

The Fairey Spearfish was built to meet Specification O.5/43 for a torpedo and dive bomber capable of carrying a wide variety of offensive weapons, including both British 18-inch or American 22.4-inch torpedoes. Four 500-lb or one 2,000-lb bombs could be carried in the bomb bay and 16 rockets under the wings. The photograph shows the first prototype RA356 in 1948 at Luton with a spray dispenser mounted on the rear fuselage for ice-accretion tests by Napiers.

  • The Douglas O-7 was a variant of the standard observation biplane of the US Army in the mid-1920s. The original engine for the O-2 series was the wartime Liberty as large stocks of these existed. But the three O-7s (25-405 to 25-407) were fitted with 510 hp Packard 1A-1500 engines. 25-405 seen here carries the McCook Field experimental number XP432. It was later converted back to an O-2C.

  • Регистрационный номер: N175, G-EBJY

The Supermarine Swan was a twin-engined flying boat intended for twelve passengers but when built conformed to Specification 21/22 as a reconnaissance amphibian. N175 first flew on 25th March 1924 with Rolls-Royce Eagle IXs, but soon received Napier Lion IIBs while the undercarriage was deleted. Unusual was the central superstructure for the pilots and armament was intended to include a nose gun position and two more on the upper wing. After tests at Felixstowe, the Swan was converted to a ten-passenger aircraft and in 1926 received civil registration G-EBJY for cross-Channel services with Imperial Airways.

  • Регистрационный номер: N116

The Sage 4a, N116, was another attempt by the Sage company of Peterborough to get one of its designs accepted for production. It was intended as a seaplane trainer and was powered by a 150 hp Hispano-Suiza engine which was changed to a 200 hp Sunbeam Arab after an accident. N116 served at the Isle of Grain, Calshot and Lee-on-Solent until the middle of 1919. A second example, N117, was built with folding wings.
