  • Charles Parker has sent in these photographs of Dakotas taken by his late father during the war. He was an airframe fitter and spent some time working on Lord Mountbatten's Dakotas. They are believed to have been taken at Ratmalana in Ceylon. 2100538 was named 'Hapgift', implying it was supplied by Hap Arnold for his use. It had the badge of Supreme Allied Commander South East Asia on the nose.

Peter Berry has kindly sent us a photo of the newly-restored Gannet AEW.3 XL497 at Prestwick. Congratulations to all involved for an excellent job.

  • The Air Ministry issued a set of books showing three-views of aircraft. They were loose-leaf APs and new sheets were provided as aircraft arrived in service. Presumably most air forces had a similar one and the Finns were no exception, except that they appear to have favoured using a card system.
The following rather battered example has surfaced from somewhere of a Czech Aero A-32. Sixteen of these were purchased from Czechoslovakia to supplement eight A-11s. Powered by Gnome-Rhone Jupiters, they were used for light bombing and reconnaissance from 1929, becoming advanced trainers from 1935.

A rather unusual colour scheme for a RAAF Sabre is evident here. We took the photograph at RAAF Station Amberley in 1988. A94-922 served with the Aircraft Trials Unit, then went to No.81 Wing and finally to No.2 Operational Conversion Unit. It was designated a museum aircraft on 14th May 1973. We are not aware if it was ever exhibited as when it was photographed it was being used as a test-piece for aircraft finishers. We were told that as a finale, the course was allowed to put on their own paint scheme.
