Although it is now more than 20 years since the Lockheed SR-71 made its first flight, the Blackbird is still one of the most dramatic shapes in the sky, and a certain show-stealer wherever it appears. The SR-71 is the subject of an addition to the Osprey Colour Series, containing 122 colour photos by Paul F Crickmore. The illustrations of the Blackbird below were taken by Chris Burkett at the Mildenhall air show in 1986.
Another recent addition to the Osprey Colour Series is "Fire Bombers" by Philip Wallick, covering a large number of aircraft types adapted to carry water or chemical fire retardants. Among the newer types used in this role, adapted in Canada by Conair, are (shown) the Fokker F27 and Aerospatiale Ecureuil.
