11 ноября 2015г. совершил первый полет японский региональный пассажирский самолет Mitsubishi Regional Jet (MRJ). Это первый реактивный пассажирский самолет, созданный в Японии. Полет продолжительностью 1,5 ч был выполнен из аэропорта Нагоя. На сегодня разработчик располагает заказами на поставку 223 единиц таких воздушных судов. В том числе, 32 самолета для авиакомпании Japan Airlines и до 100 машин - для американской компании Trans. Планируется, что первый серийный самолет будет построен в июне 2017 г.

The PW1000 PurePower series will be fitted on Mitsubishi Regional Jet
Авиаперевозчики рассчитывают, что авиалайнеры следующего поколения будут иметь на 25%лучшую топливную эффективность. Новое поколение двигателей представлено GEnx ("General Electric") и Trent 1000 ("Rolls-Royce"), одним из основных отличий которых стала замена традиционной системы отбора сжатого воздуха от двигателя более эффективной системой, шире использующей возможности электрооборудования. Еще более радикальный дизайн имеет двигатель PW1000G ("Pratt & Whitney", на снимке), созданный на базе технологии "Geared Turbofan" - системы привода вентилятора через редуктор (справа), которая позволяет существенно снизить скорость вращения вентилятора по сравнению со скоростью вращения турбины. Двигатель уже выбран для установки на самолеты Bombardier CSeries и Mitsubishi MRJ. "Rolls-Royce" же сделал ставку на совершенствование своих трехвальных двигателей.
