D.MacCarron - Bandits on the Border! The Aerial Campaign Against 'Pancho' Villa
DH.4A ‘Liberty Plane’ of the 11th Aero Squadron, typical of the character of the time.
Two Mexican army officers in full flying gear, about to be flown as observers with the US border patrol. This practice greatly improved cross-border relations.
In February 1921 border patrol Lt A Pearson, seen with his specially modified DH.4B, attempted a record flight from San Diego, California, to Pablo Beach, Florida. The aircraft had extra fuel tanks in what had been the front cockpit. The attempt failed and he was forced down in Mexico.
