Along with the Avro Lancaster, the four-engined Handley Page Halifax was at the cutting edge of bomber technology on its introduction into RAF service in November 1940. This Halifax Mk II Series I is fitted with 0-303in guns throughout; the nose and dorsal turrets being a Boulton Paul Type C Mk I and C Mk II respectively, and the tail turret a four-gun Boulton Paul Type E.
This series of photographs was taken from Halifax II JP193 on January 6, 1944 during a landing approach into Leavesden. The pilot was T. W. Morton. Note the Leavesden-built Mosquitoes awaiting collection by the ATA in the bottom photograph.
