Air International 2008-06
I.Bozinovski - Jat Airways. 80 Years of Service /Commercial/
DC-3/C-47s remained in service with JAT for 29 years - from the airline's formation in 1947 until the type was retired in 1976. The elliptical logo on the tail was nicknamed 'JAT's egg'.
By the end of 2005, Jat Airways had phased out its 727s, though some remained leased until 2006 when they were returned to Belgrade for dissasembly. In November 2006 YU-AKK was broken down for spares, many of which were sold to Kam Air in Afghanistan.
Jat Airways' sole DC-10, YU-AMB, was photographed in front of the company hangar, at Belgrade Nikola Tesla International Airport.
Having leased a DC-9 since 1969, JAT bought its first DC-9-32 in 1970. A total of 14 entered service with JAT between 1970 and 1973. YU-AJM, produced in 1973, is seen at Frankfurt Airport in July 1985.
In 1931 Aeroput purchased a Farman F.306 three-engined, high-wing monoplane with a cabin for eight passengers. Sadly, it crashed near Ljubljana on September 12, 1933, killing all eight on board.
Boeing 737-3H9 YU-ANF is owned by Jat Airways, but currently leased to AeroContractors of Nigeria.
This Boeing 737-3H9 (YU-AND) is Jat Airways' oldest aircraft. With its acquisition in 1985, JAT became the first European airline to operate 737-300s. A total of nine 737-3H9s entered service with JAT between 1985 and 1988. Despite the changes in the company name and logo, YU-AND still wears the 1990s JAT livery.
Jat Airways' most recent acquisitions are two 737-4B7s (YU-AOR and YU-AOS) that were leased from US Airways in 2004. YU-AOR is seen taking off from Zurich International Airport. Note that this aircraft sports the Jat Airways' logo on the fuselage, but not the dots on the tail.
ATR-72-202 YU-ALR is Jat Airways' only leased turboprop. It is seen here departing Skopje-Alexander The Great Airport, in the early morning of March 19, 2007, on its way to Belgrade. This aircraft has been in service with the airline since 2003 and has been recently finished in what is believed to be a final version of Jat Airways' dot livery.
