Originally fitted with a nine-cylinder Wright J-5 Whirlwind radial engine, N19157 is now powered by a seven-cylinder Continental R-670, owing to the scarcity of the original powerplant. The Continental develops 220 h.p., giving the D-25 a cruising speed of 85 m.p.h. and a maximum speed of 100 m.p.h.

N19157 shows off its graceful elliptical wingtips - an unusual feature of this otherwise utilitarian workhorse. Spanning 45ft, the upper wing is built up on two spruce spars with 18 ribs per panel. The lower wing spans just 32ft 6in.

N19157’s fin, rudder and elevator are alloy tube structures, while the tailplane is wooden. Note the large tailwheel.
