The Aerogypt I photographed at Heston on March 19, 1939. The patented Helmy flap is being held in the up position by Saleh Helmy, nearest the camera, and an assistant. The maximum angle of incidence was 23 and, combined with the fuselage, the lifting aerofoil contributed 50 per cent of the lift.

Two identical views of the Aerogypt I taken at Heston in March 1939, showing the patented Helmy flap raised and retracted. Although the NPL commented favourably on the aerodynamic properties of the flap, they declared the idea mechanically impracticable. Certainly there are no mechanical means for operating the flap visible in these photographs.

The Aerogypt in its final form at White Waltham in 1946. Note the curious outrigger self-castoring main-wheels, the revised lengthened nose and the auxiliary stabilising fins on the tailplane.

The stubby appearance of the Aerogypt I is apparent in this photograph taken at Heston in March 1939. The Helmy flap is retracted flush with the cabin roof. Lending scale to the aircraft is Helmy and Dorothy Arkell, his wife-to-be.

The Aerogypt during transition to Mk IV configuration. The three Sprite two-stroke engines have been replaced with 65 h.p. Continentals and a tricycle undercarriage has been substituted. The degree of enlargement of the fin and rudder area may be clearly seen.
