Jacqueline Cochran chats with newsmen from the cockpit of a Lockheed F-104G Star fighter at Los Angeles Airport on her arrival from Edwards Air Force Base, where she had set two new world speed records for women. On April 12, 1963 she was timed at 1,273 m.p.h. through a ten-mile trap in a 15-25km course.

In the early Fifties this was about as close as women could get to modern jet fighters. These Wrens are working on a Supermarine Attacker's Rolls-Royce Nene engine in August 1951.

Capt Jane Foster (left) and Capt Deanna Brasseur with a CF-5 fighter whilst on a basic fighter course with the Canadian Air Force. Both are now qualified on CF-18 Hornets and have been posted to operational fighter squadrons.
