VFW-Fokker VFW-614

   Получив финансовую поддержку от правительства Западной Германии, "VFW-Fokker" приступила в начале 1960-х годов к разработке 40-местного авиалайнера. В 1968 году началась разработка трех прототипов ближнемагистрального реактивного лайнера, получившего обозначение VFW-614.
   Он представлял собой низкоплан с крылом умеренной стреловидности и кабиной, вмещавшей до 44 пассажиров. Необычной особенностью проекта было размещение двух ТРДД Rolls-Royce/SNECMA M45H Mk 501 тягой по 3302 кг на пилонах над крылом. Пассажиры попадали в самолет через дверь в левом борту, оснащенную встроенным трапом. Такое решение, вместе с вспомогательной силовой установкой в хвостовой части фюзеляжа, позволяло сделать самолет независимым от наземных служб.
   Первый прототип VFW-614 был поднят в воздух 14 июля 1971 года; сертификат был получен 23 августа 1974 года, а первый серийный самолет поставили 28 апреля 1975 года. Он вышел на регулярные линии авиакомпании "Cimber Air" в ноябре 1975 года.
   К сожалению, VFW-614 не стал популярным, так как его малая вместимость делала слишком высокой стоимость пассажиро-километра. Было заказано всего 16 самолетов: 3 - "Air Alsace", 2 - "Cimber Air", 8 - "Touraine Air Transport" и 3 - Люфтваффе. Серийный выпуск завершился в 1978 году. Несколько лет спустя лайнеры были выведены из коммерческой эксплуатации. Люфтваффе использовали свои самолеты до 1999 года. Один VFW-614 применялся для испытаний DLR (Германским авиакосмическим центром) до 2012 года.

During the first half of ILA the DLR's VFW-614 ATTAS (Advanced Technologies Testing Aircraft System), D-ADAM, appeared in the static and flying programme. The aircraft is highly modified and is to participate in a series of tests to evaluate the operation of unmanned air vehicles in controlled airspace over Germany. While the nose boom and smoke-generating pod over the port wing are visible modifications, the aircraft’s digital flight control system will allow the aircraft to function as a ground controlled UAV. Test flights are due to commence at the end of 2002 and last until the end of 2003.
