Air Greenland still uses a pair of S-61's for tourism flights, emergencies and the annual dog sled race.
The S-61 has not been in regular passenger service. It just became too uneconomical to operate a large fleet, although two are still used.
Ex-Sabena A330-223 OY-GRN (msn 230) can only operate into Kangerlussuaq on the west coast, from where its passengers and cargo are distributed around Greenland using the Dash 8 fleet.
Harsh conditions, as seen here at Nuuk, are a fact of life in Greenland. But in 2015 Air Greenland still carried 395,000 passengers and made a profit.
The Dash 8s go to Flybe for maintenance but the airline's own maintenance hangar in Nuuk overhauls the helicopter fleet.
