Air International 2008-10
D.Carrara - The Real CON AIR /Law enforcement/
This Boeing 727 is pictured at Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport in May this year and was being used by the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement. This agency is JPATS' largest customer, though as illustrated here, it also operates its own aircraft to give it more flexibility in scheduling flights and accommodate the growing number of deportees.
JPATS has a base in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico from where it operates a Beech 99 and this Saab 2000. Aircraft used by JPATS carry no titles - they don't want to attract attention to their role.
During flights prisoners are handcuffed to a chain around their waist and also have to wear leg irons. These two individuals are pictured boarding a Hawker 800.
Two Hawker 800s are operated by JPATS for dangerous or high-profile prisoners, as well as convicts that need to be moved to another facility for urgent medical attention.
Prisoners board one of seven MD-83s used by JPATS. This US Government agency undertook 244,136 prisoner 'moves' by air in the last fiscal year.
JPATS used to fly Boeing 737-300s and ’-400s until last year when they were replaced by McDonnell Douglas MD-83s. Due to security concerns JPATS requested that any photos of its aircraft have the registrations removed.
