The main campaign of area clearance of the Mau Mau began in August 1954. These Harvards are operating above the Aberdare forests, where an estimated 8,000 terrorists were at large.

Harvards leave the target area in the vicinity of Kinangop Peak, the low morning sun accentuating the undulating Aberdare forests. According to one Harvard pilot, as often as not the target could not be seen and most of the time the Harvards were bombing and strafing the trees.

An aerial view of the KP Air Wing’s strip at Mweiga, which was guarded by a contingent of the King’s African Rifles, housed under canvas. Tri-Pacer VP-KPF is seen flying over the thatched mess-huts. The red earth strip was 1,200yd long.

A 49 Sqn Lincoln being bombed up at Eastleigh in November 1953. The bombers carried 500lb and 1,000lb bombs against the Mau Mau.
