Piper PA-22 Tri-Pacer и Colt 108
В 1951 году компания "Piper" начала выпуск PA-22 Tri-Pacer, спроектированного на основе PA-20, но оснащенного шасси с носовой управляемой опорой. От PA-20 новая модель отличалась также 4-цилиндровым мотором O-320 мощностью 150 л. с. (112 кВт) и взаимной связью между органами управления элеронами и рулем направления. Благодаря наличию такой перекрестной связи самолетом можно было управлять только с помощью ручки, без одновременного использования педалей. Перекрестная связь при необходимости легко отключалась. Tri-Pacer быстро стал популярным самолетом. На машины поздней постройки ставили моторы O-320-B большей мощности. До прекращения серийного производства в начале 1960-х годов построено 7668 самолетов, включая самолеты Caribbean со 150-сильным мотором, оптимизированные для использования в аэроклубах.
1 ноября 1960 года компания "Piper" анонсировала производство более дешевого двухместного PA-22 Colt 108, спроектированного на основе PA-22, но с двухместной предельно простой кабиной в стандартном варианте. Интерьер кабины и приборное оборудование вариантов Custom и Super Custom выполнялись по более высоким стандартам. Мотор O-235-C1B мощностью 108 л. с. позволял самолету развивать на уровне моря максимальную скорость в 193 км/ч, дальность полета на высоте 2135 м составляла 1110 км. За три года серийного производства построено 1827 самолетов Colt.
