The Heinkel He 111 was the backbone of the Luftwaffe bomber offensive during the Battle of Britain. This particular aircraft is from Kampfgeschwader 4, but is typical of the aircraft that equipped KG55.

Seen low off the coast of Jersey in June 1940, this is He 111 G1+LS of 8/KG55, one of the raiders of July 29, 1940.

The aftermath at Fullers Lane, East Woodhay, on the morning of Tuesday July 30, 1940, as RAF personnel, civilians, police and soldiers poke among the wreckage of G1+CS. Only the tail section remains substantially intact, but fire has scorched away all trace of the three fishes unit emblem. A soldier inspects one of Heinz Boker’s MG15 machine-guns across his knee. Meanwhile, three German airmen remain at large in the countryside.
