SINGLE-SEAT, long-range Miles M2R Hawk Major CC-FBB, owned by the Museo Nacional Aeronautico in Chile, is being restored at Los Cerillos Airport in Santiago. Shipped to Chile in 1935, the Hawk, named Satumo, was used during 1936 by Sehor Franco Biancho for his recordbreaking Punta Arenas-Santiago-Buenos Aires-Punta Arenas flight.

An Etrich Taube replica, built by Flugplatz-BG of Furstenwalde near Frankfurt, was one of the stars of the ILA 2000 show on June 6-12, 2000 at Berlin-Schonefeld Airport. It was built from original plans, and is powered by a Czech Walter Minor engine. The replica first flew in May, and is based at Edel airfield, about 25 miles east of Berlin. Flugplatz-BG also had an Albatross B I and a Farman biplane on static exhibition.

Spitfire PR.XI PL983/G-PRXI, the subject of Aeroplane’s regular series Spitfire Update since our March issue, returned to the air in Kent on June 15, 2000. Initially flown from Martin Sargeant’s Goudhurst strip by Pete Kynsey, it was later flown by Martin himself.

HAWKER SEA HURRICANE AE977/G-TWTD made a faultless 20min maiden post-restoration flight from Wattisham on June 7, 2000, with Stuart Goldspink at the controls. The ex-Fleet Air Arm unhooked Sea Hurricane Mk X has been in the workshops of Hawker Restorations at Milden, Suffolk, since 1994. The project has been carried out in tandem with Mk I PP3351/ZK-TPL, which flew again after completion by Air New Zealand on January 12 this year, and Mk XIIA BW881/G-KAMM, which should be airborne in early 2001.
