This Fw 190A-2 belonged to the Gruppenstab of I/JG 26 “Schlageter” under Hauptmann Joachim Muncheberg while based at Abbeville-Drucat in the early summer of 1942. The insignia indicate that this aircraft was flown by the Gruppen Adjutant.

Fw 190A-8 (Werk-Nr 7298 ) belonging to the Geschwaderstab of JG 26 “Schlageter” and flown by the Kommodore, Oberstleutnant Josef “Pips” Priller, while based at Lille-Nord in April 1944. Priller led the “Schlageter” Jagdgeschwader from January 1943 until January 1945. All Priller’s Fw 190s displayed an “Ace of Hearts” emblem below the windscreen with the name “Jutta” (short for Johanna) superimposed.

This Fw 190A-8 (Werk-Nr 380352) belonged to II/JG 11 under Hauptmann Rudiger von Kirchmayr while based at Darmstadt. Operating in the final defence of the Reich in the early spring of 1945, this machine displayed the Geschwader emblem and the yellow identification band carried by all JG 11 aircraft within the Reichverteidigung organisation at this time.

This Fw 190A-4 (Werk-Nr 1167) belonged to the Gruppenstab of III/JG 2 “Richthofen” based at Poix in September 1942. The “Cock’s Head” emblem was introduced by the Kommandeur of III/JG 2, Hauptmann “Assi” Hahn, who led the Gruppe in France from October 1940 until November 1942. It was not uncommon for the “Richthofen” Jagdgeschwader to paint the underside of the engine cowlings of its Fw 190s red.

This Fw 190A-4 (Werk-Nr 2403) flown by Feldwebel Karl Niesel of 10.(Jabo)/JG 26 was based at St Omer-Wizernes in the autumn of 1942 and was part of a Schwarm that attacked Hastings on 17 October 1942. While returning to base, Niesel was intercepted by two Typhoons of No 486 (New Zealand) Squadron flown by Pilot Officers C G Thomas and A N Sames who shot down Nr 2403 at 1422 hours, Niesel losing his life.

This Fw 190A-8 (Werk-Nr 681382) belonged to the Gruppenstab of 1/JG 26 “Schlageter” and was flown by the Kommandeur, Major Karl Borris, while at Grimberghen, near Brussels, in September 1944. Note the additional armour-glass plates bolted on to the sides of the sliding canopy.

Arnim Faber’s Fw 190A-3 photographed at the RAE on 13 July 1942, immediately prior to being flown to the Air Fighting Development Unit at Duxford. The purposeful lines of Kurt Tank's fighter may be seen clearly from this photograph of Faber’s Fw 190A-3 taken on 11 August 1942, while undergoing AFDU trials.
