    Early trials of the XOS2U-1 were carried out at Long Island Sound, the floatplane proving easy to handle and stable, if a little underpowered. This remained a criticism of the design throughout its life.

  • This OS2U-1 (BuAer 1691) had the distinctive dark blue fuselage with silver wings and tailplane that denoted its use by an officer of flag rank or a civilian in the Navy Department. In the original documentation it was known as a ‘flagplane’.
