  • Little known and rarely photographed are the aircraft of the US Army/Operational Test and Evaluation Command’s Threat Support Activity which operates a number of Soviet types including an An-2 Colt, Ka-32 Helix, two Mi-2 Hoplites, two Mi-8/17 Hips, two Mi-14 Hazes and three Mi-24 Hinds. Based at Fort Bliss, Texas, the unit maintains a detachment at Fort Polk, Louisiana, where this Mi-8T, serialled ‘00528’, was seen during October 1996. As with most of the unit’s aircraft, its origins are classified and the camouflage is believed to be non-authentic to further confuse its origin.

  • Noted at the SOGERMA facility at Bordeaux/Merignac during October 1996 were six Cameroun Air Force CM-170R Magisters, including (TJX)-EM/1041 seen here, which have been stored since at least 1987. All are former French Air Force aircraft which were refurbished for resale but never delivered to Cameroun after the latter defaulted on payment for the aircraft - their future remains uncertain.

    The first Boeing 777-236 to be delivered to British Airways, G-ZZZC/Sir Charles Edward Kingsford Smith (actually the third to be built for the airline), landing on runway 27R at Heathrow after a test flight on November 15, 1996 following arrival three days earlier. On November 17 the aircraft undertook its first revenue service when it operated BA123 from Heathrow to Dubai and Muscat, replacing Boeing 767s on the route. Two more 777s were scheduled to join BA’s fleet before the end of 1995 and will be used initially for flights to Paris and on daily Cairo services.

Originally intended for Air Inter as F-GMDE, the aircraft was not delivered to the French carrier and has been leased to Aer Lingus from Airbus Industrie - the Irish airline now operate a total of four A330s on services to North America.
