    HULLO, TWINS!: F./O. G. Thorne on the Avro "Avian I" ("Cirrus II") and "J. Wellworth" on the Westland "Widgeon III" ("Genet"), who started together, flew the course together, and finished together!
    Two aircraft featured in this edition of the UK Civil Register 1929 are the R.A.E. Aero Club's Avro Avian I G-EBQN and Sqdn Ldr H.M.Probyn's Westland Widgeon III G-EBRQ. They are shown taking off together at Heston at the start of the King's Cup on 5th July 1929.

    G-EBOF was the first of four Avro 536 aircraft with 4-seat rear cockpits erected by Surrey Flying Services for joy riding. As they had only the 130 hp Clerget engine they did not need the dorsal fin fitted to the standard 536 with the more powerful Bentley BRI of 150 hp.

    G-EBOV the prototype Avro 581 Avian c/n 5116 in its first Lympne Trials form with comma rudder and 70 hp Genet 5-cyl radial engine in 1926. Later it had Cirrus I and II engines and was flown by Bert Hinkler to Australia 7.2.28 to 22.2.28 where it may still be seen in the Queensland Museum at Brisbane.

    The Halton HAC1 Mayfly G-EBOO (32 hp Bristol Cherub III) is the centre of attraction for the Halton RAF apprentices who built it, first flight 31.1.27. With its lower wing removed it became the Minus parasol-wing monoplane, first flight 4.5.28.

    G-EBNQ c/n 1 was the one-off Vickers Type 123 P.V. single seat fighter. It first flew 11.9.26 with a 400 hp Hispano Suiza T52, an interim engine pending the Kestrel with which it became the Type 141 with the same regn.
