The photo was unearthed by Peter Berry since his original enquiry and shows the Spartan, named "Island Queen", with the inset presumably depicting proprietor Ernest Hubert Byrne. He founded the company trading as Shanklin Flying Services at Landguard Manor Aerodrome, later Lea Farm Aerodrome, Sandown, with G-ABAZ and Spartan Arrow G-AAWY as initial equipment. Both were registered to him on 1.8.34 although records also show them registered to an early Sandown & Shanklin Flying Services in 1931.

The second photo shows G-ABAZ in a slightly different front-end colour scheme and comes from Tony Smith's family archives with the comment that his mother had a joyride in it on the Isle of Wight 'around 1931'.
