Регистрационный номер: X14997, J-BAGK The Northrop 5A X14997 was one of only three built for export and although not a true Gamma it was developed from it. The engine was the 775 hp Wright SR-1820F-52 Cyclone 9-cyl radial. In Japan the aircraft was evaluated by the Navy and then became J-BAGK, after which it probably went to Manchuria.

This Japanese primary is basically a Dagling modified to have a larger wing span of 11.85 m (38ft 10in.) to provide longer glides when training over flat ground areas. The RFD Dagling was based on the German Zogling, itself a slightly smaller derivative of the SG-38 Schulgleiter.

Two primary gliders are seen being manhandled at the Kumagaya Flying School in January 1945. These primaries appear to be Daglings. Identification is just a number on the rudder and anyway there is little room for a registration anywhere on a primary!
