Stonehenge is a much-photographed location - but not this one. It is one taken by No.14 Training Depot Station in September 1918. At this time, Stonehenge was the home of No.1 School of Navigation and Bomb-Dropping, formerly No.2 TDS. Equipped with Handley Pages, D.H.4s, D.H.9s and F.E.2Bs, the school trained bomber pilots to operational standards. The airfield buildings show the size of a typical TDS and demonstrates that flying training in World War One was not just a few aircraft in a field, as often depicted in the media.

Harvard FS899 served with No.2 FTS and the Central Flying School. The coding 'O-M' was that carried while with the CFS at Little Rissington.

Westgate was a seaplane station on the north coast of Kent whose seaplanes carried out patrols over the Thames Estuary. No.219 Squadron was at Westgate at the end of the First World War and flew Sopwith Baby, Short 184 and Fairey IIIB seaplanes. From an adjacent airfield, it also flew D.H.9s and Camels. The hangar is a normal seaplane shed but what is interesting is the unusual way of showing individual unit numbers in a circle on the fin.

Hart Trainer K5052 was shipped to the Middle East in May 1936 and after erection at the RAF Depot at Aboukir, was delivered to No.4 Flying Training School at Abu Sueir. It survived until 29 August 1942 when, after the engine cut, it overturned in a forced landing 15 miles W of Abu Sueir. Although repairable, it was not worth the work involved at this late stage in its career and it was stuck off charge on 31 December 1942. The number '18' is confusing as No.18 Squadron flew Harts and carried its squadron number on the fuselage.
